First class in the morning

This 2D game, inspired by Vampire Survivors, tells the story of a sleep-deprived college student struggling to stay awake during an early morning class. Players use the arrow keys to control their brain as it fights off drowsiness, while using the mouse to take notes on the lecture material in their notebook. The gameplay draws from a memorable sequence in What Remains of Edith Finch, where players simultaneously manage Lewis Finch's fantasy world and chop fish on the other side, using separate controls. First Class in the Morning features gameplay design by Hongliang Lyu and programming by Jason Mao. The game was voted “The Best Overall” at the Fall 2023 UW Game Dev Club Game Jam.
